In comparison with single-class applications, multi-class applications have the following disadvantages:1. for a multi-class application, a divisional application is only applicable when an application encounters provisional partial refusal and the multi-class application can only be divided into the provisionally refused part and the preliminarily approved part;2. if a multi-class application is opposed in respect of part of the classes during the opposition period, it is not possible to divide the application;3. if an assignment is requested, the whole multi-class application/registration must be assigned without division.4. In China: if a renewal is requested, the whole multi-class registration must be renewed without division. One disadvantage of a number of single-class applications over one multi-class applications is that a wrong classification of goods and services cannot be easily solved because goods and services cannot be shifted between different trademarks.
