Protecting food receipes against manufacturers

I have a friend who is about to engage a contract manufacturer overseas to supply his food products.
He is afraid that the manufacturer might steal his recipes for themselves. Can this be prevented with a contract?

Quote from Martin Schweiger on April 23, 2019, 6:38 pmBasic rule is this: one cannot forbid one person by a contract what everybody else (who is not a party to the contract) is free to do. That follows from anti-competition laws that are very similar world-wide.
There must always be an underlying IP right, which can be Know How. But Know How comes with some requirements, and limitations.
Your friend needs a thorough IP Business analysis before he can proceed, plus creative support for designing the cooperation with his overseas contract manufacturer.
