The Perfectly Sized Screencast Video in Camtasia – From Recording to Cutting And Production

You have probably already found out that I am using Camtasia for recording, cutting, and producing my screencast videos.

I found out that a video size of 720p gives sufficiently good videos without producing an excessive amount of data. In a wide-screen format, which is “16:9”.

Recording

This is how I adjust the recording window size. Click on the “screen size” sector in the Camtasia Capture application:

or just “Full Screen”.

There is a trick if you want to record just one application and you want this application to fit into your recording window: “lock to application”. That feature only exists in the earlier versions of Camtasia, and please follow this link to learn more: https://support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360077822391-2021-Recorder-lock-to-application-missing-

Cutting

Once this recorded video is brought to the Camtasia main application, do these two steps:

  • set the canvas dimensions (right click on the canvas) to 720p:

  • after importing the video on the canvas, set the video dimensions to “scale to fit”:

Produce

Select the “Export” menu “Local File”

Then select “MP4 Only (up to 720p)”

And then you are all done. You have a good 16:9 video format screencast video.

There are some really good explainer videos about that on Youtube, for example this one:
